FICUS's Shanghai Collection is an exploration of Eastern aesthetics through the lens of our atelier. Inspired by the rich, traditional Chinese garment culture of Shanghai, an international city where East meets West, we reinterpret fabric, tailoring, and design, blending the best of both worlds. In a time of fast fashion, our commitment remains unwavering: each piece in this collection is handcrafted by traditional Chinese tailors.
This season, we travelled to Hong Kong and collaborated with Malcolm Lin, a close friend and seasoned brand strategist, to present the Fall/Winter 23 Shanghai Collection. Shot at the iconic Mandarin Oriental Hotel, this series embodies a blend of heritage and modernity, with Eastern spirit infused with Western elegance.
The highlight of the collection, the Shanghai Jacket, draws inspiration from one of the traditional Chinese Tang jackets that is characterised by a mandarin collar closing at the front with frog buttons. While retaining its Chinese essence, we’ve integrated subtle French workwear elements, making it effortless to style with denim or classic shirts and trousers. Crafted from natural fabrics with a relaxed silhouette, the jacket offers a unique balance of comfort and sophistication.
Another signature piece is the Shanghai Polo Shirt. This relaxed-fit shirt merges a short stand collar with straight-cut elements, adorned with traditional Chinese frog buttons on the placket and French cuffs. The result is a piece that’s refined yet playful, versatile enough to be worn alone or layered under a jacket.
